About Stockholm
The city of islands
The Swedish Royal Capital is beautifully situated on 14 islands. Right outside is the Archipelago with over 24.000 islands, and a trip on a boat is surely worthwhile. Stockholm is a modern city with dynamic design, fashion, gastronomic, music, and art and entertainment scenes. In recent years Swedish design and food have been highly appreciated also internationally. No less than seven restaurants in Stockholm have been awarded one or two stars in the guide Michelin.
Top-ten congress town
Stockholm has repeatedly been ranked as one of the world’s top-ten conference and congress cities. The city hosts many international meetings, conferences and conventions yearly. Stockholm is reputedly a city where everything works out the way it was meant. There is a large meetings industry where people are appreciated to be professional and good at project planning and logistics. Stockholm International Fairs is one of Europe’s largest and most modern fairs and only ten minutes away from the Central Station. In addition there are several meeting venues in the actual city, the most famous being the Grand Hôtel and the Stockholm City Hall, where the Nobel Prize Ceremony is being held. There are also plenty of venues around town for social activites out of the ordinary.
It all works out on time
When things run smootly, meeting attendants can focus on the actual content of the meeting and not be disturbed by faulty logistics. In Stockholm, the busdriver will be on time and the technique will have been checked on forehand and actually function during that special presentation. People in general are willing to help. It is easy to find your way around town since everything is within walking distance. Stockholm also has efficient public transportation with metro, buses and trains.
Hotels of your choice
Swedish hotels are generally of high international standard. Stockholm has no less than 50 hotels with four of five stars. You will find the classic luxury hotels as well as small boutique and design hotels. For a more relaxing atmosphere there are several beautiful castles and manor houses that have been turned into hotels and conference venues. Such hotels can be found just some twenty minutes away from the inner city.
There is a voluntary hotel rating system in Sweden through which hotels are awarded 1 to 5 stars. The system is administered by The Swedish Hotel and Restaurant Association.
